Boilermaker 5K M60-64: Morehouse Dominates in the Utica Heat

David Morehouse, 60, from New Hartford, ran away with the M60-64 field from the start. His 6:56/mi average was a full 32 seconds per mile faster than second-place William Brain's 7:28/mi clip — a gap that tells the real story of a race that was never truly in doubt. Morehouse crossed in 21:31, leaving Brain to battle the rest of the field on his own terms.

Brain (23:12) held second place comfortably enough, finishing 56 seconds ahead of Joseph Long (24:08, 7:46/mi). Long, also from New Hartford, made sure of his podium spot by keeping Mike Palmer (24:52, 8:00/mi) at arm's length. Palmer in turn had nearly a 45-second cushion on Gregory Evans (25:37, 8:15/mi) in fifth, with John Battle (26:05) and Dale Lallier (26:14) rounding out a tightly grouped sixth and seventh.

The most compelling racing of the day happened just behind them. Crumrine and Young posted 27:23 and 27:24 respectively — a single second separating 8th from 9th after more than three miles in the Utica heat. Crosley (27:29) was only five seconds further back in 10th, and Ken Phelps (27:34) and John Bednarczyk (27:39) kept the pressure on through 11th and 12th. In conditions that pushed many runners past the 9-minute-mile mark, every second in that cluster was earned.
