Boilermaker 5K F20-24: Hurley laps the field in dominant wire-to-wire win

• Annika Hurley, 1st — 19:03 (6:08/mi): Won the F20-24 field by nearly five minutes, the most commanding margin in the top 20.
• Sabri vs. Altamura, 3rd and 4th — 24:45 apiece: Two runners, same displayed time — but the timing chips separated them, with Rania Sabri edging Madison Altamura for the final podium spot.
• Laura Wong, 5th — 24:57: Finished just 12 seconds off the podium, the only other runner in the field to break 25 minutes.
• Tight mid-pack cluster: Eleven runners — 6th through 16th — were separated by just 1:19, from Elizabeth Cingranelli's 26:22 to Kim Gates's 27:41.

In 84°F heat with humidity pressing down on Utica, Annika Hurley of Glastonbury, CT ran a race entirely her own. Her 19:03 at 6:08 per mile wasn't just a win — it was a statement. The 20-year-old crossed the line 4:58 ahead of second-place Gianna Anthony (24:01, 7:44/mi), a gap that speaks less to a race than to a runner operating on a different plane entirely.

Behind Anthony, the battle for the podium was decided by fractions. Rania Sabri (Fort Washington, PA) and Madison Altamura (Clark Mills, NY) both stopped the clock at 24:45 at 7:58 per mile, but Sabri's chip time edged her to 3rd, leaving Altamura in 4th. Laura Wong of New Hartford rounded out the top five in 24:57 — the only other runner to break 25 minutes in the F20-24 field of 199.

From there, the race became a tightly contested scrum through the mid-pack. Elizabeth Cingranelli (6th, 26:22), Kameron Karwowski (7th, 26:42), Erin Maida (8th, 26:45), and Leanne Syron (9th, 26:52) all finished within 30 seconds of each other, running paces between 8:29 and 8:39 per mile. Further back, Elizabeth Green and Blathnaid Iosso both clocked 27:09 — again separated only by the timing mat — with Bailey White (27:11) and Meredith Francis (27:15) right on their heels.

Hurley's win was the story of the day, but the real racing happened in the thick of the pack, where seconds and split-seconds decided places all the way through the top 20.
