Brendan Carter, 26, from Watertown, MA, turned the M25-29 race into a solo time trial. His 15:38 at 5:02 per mile was a performance in a different class from anyone else on the course — and in 84°F heat with scattered clouds over Utica, that kind of pace demands respect. Tringali, also 26, gave chase and delivered a legitimate 16:31 (5:19/mi), but the 53-second gap between them tells the real story: Carter was gone before anyone could answer.

The battle for the podium was more dramatic. Sean Carpentier made the trip from Anchorage, AK, and secured 3rd in 20:16 (6:31/mi), nearly a minute ahead of 4th-place Kagan Crawford, the local Utica runner who crossed in 21:15 (6:50/mi). Crawford, racing in his own backyard, couldn't quite close the gap to the podium despite a strong effort on a warm July morning.

The real racing drama played out in the 5th-through-7th cluster. Nimey (21:35, 6:57/mi) and Agedal (21:37, 6:57/mi) were separated by just two seconds despite averaging the same rounded pace — a genuine sprint finish for 5th. Will Bryant from Marcy, NY wasn't far behind in 7th at 21:51 (7:02/mi), running a noticeably steadier 7:02/mi that kept him honest but just out of that battle. Further back, Austin Drake and Zachary Bateson — both clocking 25:23 at 8:10/mi — posted matching times to the second to share 19th and 20th in a 146-strong field.
