Betty Murray made her intentions clear from the opening miles. Running at a 9:35/mi clip in 74°F warmth, she built a lead that never looked threatened — her final margin of 5:13 over runner-up Katie Petrik was commanding in any conditions. Murray's middle segment (Mile 4 to Mile 10) ranked 22nd-fastest among all women in the race, a sign she was moving efficiently through the meat of the course while others were beginning to feel the heat.

The real drama in the F40-44 age group played out for the final podium spot. Petrik and Hundley ran nearly identical races — both averaging 9:59/mi — and arrived at the finish just two seconds apart. Petrik held 2nd, but Hundley made her move late: her Mile 10-to-Finish split ranked 26th-fastest among all women, matching Petrik's best segment and nearly erasing a gap that had existed for most of the race. Two seconds over 13.1 miles is as close as it gets without being a tie.

Mallery Buckman rounded out the top four in 2:12:07, running a steady 10:05/mi and holding her position through the middle miles. Behind her, Danielle Dobeck's 2:17:01 represented a significant drop-off — nearly five minutes back — and the field spread further from there, with Natalie Millanes through Amy Pardini covering a wide range of paces from 10:45 down to 17:10/mi. All 16 finishers got it done on a warm November morning in Folsom, and that's worth noting on its own.
