Allan Elliott, also 72 and racing out of nearby Madison, AL, took 2nd in 42:22 at a 13:38/mi pace — a solid effort that secured the runner-up spot with nearly five minutes to spare over Randall Phillips. Phillips, the 70-year-old making the trip from Murphy, NC, finished 3rd in 47:32, running a 15:18/mi average. John Carter of Ashland, OH brought it home in 4th at 57:37, completing all four M70-74 finishers on a mild December morning in Huntsville.
