Peggy Neavor, 70, came to Huntsville and made the F70-74 race her own from the start. Her 33:28 — clicking along at 10:46 per mile on a mild December morning — was the kind of performance that leaves no drama about the outcome. Six minutes and 39 seconds separated her from second place, a margin that speaks for itself across just 3.1 miles.

Behind Neavor, Bonnie Miller — also 70, and racing on home turf in Madison, Alabama — claimed second in 40:07, averaging 12:55 per mile. There's something to be said for showing up and finishing, and Miller did exactly that, securing the runner-up spot with a comfortable cushion over third.

Lyn Toohey, 72, of Los Angeles completed the three-woman field in 1:01:30 at 19:48 per mile. She crossed the line and that's what matters — on a day that sat at a comfortable 59°F with a light breeze, all three women got to the finish line of the Rocket City 5K and earned their place in the results.
