Rocket City Marathon 5K — M40-44: Campbell Laps the Field

Nathan Campbell made this one look easy. The 42-year-old from Chicago crossed in 21:33 at 6:56/mi — more than four minutes clear of the next finisher in a group of 16. That kind of margin in a 5K isn't a win, it's a statement. While the rest of the M40-44 field was still working through mile two, Campbell was already done.

Behind him, the race delivered two separate one-second thrillers. Forsyth's Kyle Stephens held off Alabama's Ross Burks 25:55 to 25:56 for the silver and bronze. Then, just a few ticks later, Jimmy Keyes of Conyers, GA edged Tim Burton of North Salt Lake 26:51 to 26:52 for 4th and 5th. Four athletes, two gaps of one second each — the middle of this field was genuinely competitive.

Scott Wolff (27:36) and Blake Cannady (30:11) rounded out the top seven, with Walker Scheile just under the 31-minute mark in 8th. Lamont Vaughan (34:44) and Garnet Neely (41:10) kept pushing through the back half of the pack. One result stands out for different reasons: Ryan Wood is listed with a time of 9:48:56 — almost certainly a data anomaly rather than a finish time — and Jorge Kuzmicic's 48:57 slots in at 14th by the official order.
