Rocket City Half Marathon: Marco Arop dominates the M25-29 field

• Marco Arop, 26, ran 1:11:16 (5:26/mi) — the fastest finish in the M25-29 group and the fastest men's split on the closing 8M→Finish stretch.
• Jacob Shames finished 2nd in 1:24:44 — a full 13:28 behind Arop, the largest gap between any two consecutive podium spots in the group.
• Brady Hancock (1:27:13) and Austin Boudreaux (1:28:01) traded places through the race before Hancock held on for 3rd, with just 48 seconds separating them at the line.
• 58 men aged 25–29 finished, with the top 20 all breaking 1:53.

Marco Arop didn't just win the M25-29 group — he lapped it in time. His 1:11:16 at 5:26 per mile was in a different universe from the rest of the field; runner-up Jacob Shames crossed in 1:24:44, meaning Arop was already done, cooling off, and probably hydrated by the time second place arrived. That 13:28 margin isn't a race gap — it's a statement.

Behind Arop, the real competition was playing out between Shames, Brady Hancock (Madison, AL), and Austin Boudreaux (Hattiesburg, MS). Hancock and Boudreaux were locked together through the early going — Boudreaux actually held the edge heading into the final stretch — but Hancock found something on the 8M→Finish segment, posting the 10th-fastest closing split among the men while Boudreaux slipped to 13th-fastest over that same stretch. The result: Hancock took 3rd in 1:27:13, Boudreaux 4th in 1:28:01. Forty-eight seconds was all that separated them after 13.1 miles.

Zachary Warren (Auburn, AL) rounded out the top five in 1:29:53, while Chris Ranguette — the lone Huntsville local in the top six — came home 6th in 1:31:46. The back half of the top 20 stayed remarkably consistent, with 13th and 14th place (Zachary Zambrycki and Joshua Washington) finishing in 1:41:21 and 1:41:23 respectively — a two-second gap after more than 13 miles of racing.
