Jennifer Shope of Cookeville, TN, made the F50-54 race look straightforward, crossing in 1:48:01 at 8:14 per mile — a pace that would be quick in any age group. She moved from 22nd to 20th among all women in the women's field over the second half, and her closing split on the 8M-to-Finish stretch ranked 20th among all women in the field. On a mild December morning in Huntsville — 59°F and overcast — conditions were about as cooperative as a late-fall race gets, and Shope took full advantage.

Catherine Schaefer of Wauwatosa, WI, was the story of the second half. She came through the first eight miles sitting 36th among the women's field, then reeled off the 21st-fastest women's closing split to climb nine spots and lock up second in the F50-54 group with a 1:51:01. That's a strong finish, but Shope had already put three minutes of daylight between them. Patricia Dodson of New Market, AL — racing on home turf — rounded out the podium in 1:59:42, also moving up strongly over the closing miles with the 50th-fastest women's split on that stretch.

Fourth-place Kate Tate told a different story. She entered the 8-mile mark 66th among women but slipped two spots to 68th by the finish — the only top-five finisher in the F50-54 group to lose ground in the women's field over the second half. She still crossed in 2:01:29, just under 2 minutes behind Dodson. Down the leaderboard, the duel between Nicole Amthor and Cheryl Clarke — both from Cumming, GA — ended with a one-second verdict after more than two hours of racing, Amthor edging into 14th and Clarke settling for 15th.
