Sia Clarke and Kiku O'Shea turned the F55-59 age group into a genuine race-within-a-race. Through the first eight miles the two were nearly locked together, but the closing stretch told the real story: O'Shea had been running as high as 68th among women before fading to 74th, while Clarke climbed from 74th to 73rd — a quiet but decisive surge. The margin at the line was 11 seconds, with Clarke's 69th-fastest women's split on the 8M-to-Finish stretch just edging O'Shea's 82nd. That late-race difference was the whole ballgame.

Behind the podium battle, Denise Murphy ran a composed 9:51/mi to hold 3rd comfortably, finishing more than two minutes ahead of fellow Madison local Teresa Hagood. Hagood (10:02/mi) and 5th-place Gina Thompson (10:20/mi) both slipped slightly in the women's standings over the back half, a sign that the mild 59°F morning — pleasant, but with a 9 mph breeze — still extracted a toll late in the race.

The middle of the field was tightly packed between Alesia Schaefer (2:26:10) and Liz Losole (2:26:46), just 36 seconds separating 9th from 11th. Carla Hampton and Anne Coia rounded out a competitive top seven, all finishing under 2:17. With 28 finishers spread across 52 minutes of racing, the F55-59 group brought depth and drama in equal measure — none more so than the two women from opposite coasts who made it a photo finish at the front.
