George Gilder of Tyringham, MA, took the win at 1:49:48, running 11:47 per mile across the full 15K at age 85. That is the headline, full stop.

But Gilder had to earn it. David Salmon of Jamestown, NC — three years his junior at 82 — was right on his heels throughout. Salmon's stronger finishing leg told the story of how the race shaped up: Gilder built the early advantage, climbing from 4,139th to 3,752nd among men in the opening 5K segment, while Salmon tracked him closely. Then, over the back half, Salmon posted the 3,220th-fastest men's split from 10K to the finish — a sharper closing effort — and trimmed the gap. In the end, though, 40 seconds separated them at the line, with Gilder clocking 1:49:48 and Salmon 1:50:28. Close, but not a tie: Gilder was the cleaner runner from wire to wire.

Anthony Glover of Vernon, NY rounded out the M80+ field in 3rd, finishing in 2:10:29 at 13:60 per mile. At 80, Glover ran the course on the same sweltering morning — 75°F and 90% humidity — and crossed the line nearly 20 minutes behind Salmon. His split from 5K to 10K ranked among the slower men's efforts on that stretch, and his overall place drifted back through the field as the race wore on, but he finished, and in M80+, that matters.
