F15-19: Gaffney holds on as Moumen storms through the field

• Elena Gaffney (Freeville, NY, age 19) won the F15-19 race in 1:02:54 (6:45/mi), the fastest finish in the field of 250.
• Salma Moumen (Canton, NY, age 17) posted the 31st-fastest 5K→10K women's split in the field, climbing from 72nd to 39th among women en route to 2nd place in 1:03:08 — just 14 seconds back.
• Cate Manna (Whitesboro, NY, age 19) ran the 47th-fastest women's split on the 10K→Finish segment, surging from 80th to 67th among women to close out 5th place in 1:06:42.
• 15-year-olds Molly Myatt (Oneida, NY, 1:13:32) and Ella Ridgeway (Oneida, NY, 1:16:45) both finished in the top 17 of the F15-19 field, among the youngest competitors on the course.

Elena Gaffney controlled the front of the F15-19 race from early on, settling into the women's field between 34th and 37th through the first 10K before nudging back to 36th at the finish. Her 6:45/mi average on a muggy 75°F morning with 90% humidity was a composed, measured effort — and it held up. She crossed in 1:02:54 to claim the win.

The race's best story, though, was Salma Moumen's charge. The 17-year-old from Canton, NY started cautiously, sitting 72nd among women at 5K, but she unleashed the 31st-fastest women's split on the 5K→10K segment to rocket all the way to 43rd — and she didn't stop there, finishing 39th among women and 2nd in the F15-19 field in 1:03:08. That kind of mid-race surge is what makes 14 seconds feel like a genuine catch-up story: Moumen ran the middle stretch considerably faster than Gaffney's pace, but Gaffney's early cushion was just enough. Third went to Alexa Briggs (Rochester, NY) in 1:05:16 at a 7:00/mi clip, with Kendall Harrell (Wilmington, NC) 4th in 1:05:52 — those two ran the 5K→10K segment at nearly the same position among women (50th and 52nd) and held their spots through the finish.

Cate Manna rounded out the top five with a strong closing kick — her 47th-fastest women's split on the final leg lifted her from 80th to 67th among women and secured 5th in 1:06:42. Behind her, Olivia Mayorga (Mystic, CT, 6th, 1:07:33) and Gabriella Raspante (New Hartford, NY, 7th, 1:09:30) kept the middle of the field competitive, while 16-year-old Cora Hinsdill (Remsen, NY) finished 9th in 1:10:00 — a strong showing from one of the younger competitors in the mix.
