The 28-year-old from Fortville, Indiana sat at the front of the men's field from the opening 5K through the finish, running 4:35/mi to cross in 42:44. It's a touch slower than his 2024 winning time of 42:11 — conditions on this muggy July morning likely had something to do with that — but the outcome was never seriously in doubt. He also posted the fastest men's split on the 5K-to-10K segment, making it clear the middle of the race was where he put this one to bed.

Hillary Kipkoech tracked him the whole way, slotting into 2nd at the first checkpoint and never budging, finishing in 43:08 at 4:38/mi. The real drama unfolded just behind him. Wesley Kiptoo of Flagstaff, Arizona was sitting 7th through 5K, then climbed to 5th by 10K, and finally surged into 3rd by the finish with the fastest 10K-to-finish split in the men's field — crossing in 43:36. That's a remarkable back-half charge, and it's worth noting that Kiptoo ran 43:13 here in 2024 to finish 3rd as well, making this a consecutive podium in Utica. Patrick Kiprop, who had held 3rd through the middle miles, faded just enough in the final stretch to finish 4th in 43:37 — one agonizing second behind Kiptoo.

William Amponsah rounded out the top five in 44:03 (4:44/mi), with Afewerki Zeru 6th in 45:23 and Teshome Mekonen 7th in 46:07. The field ran deep through the humidity, with 645 finishers in the M25-29 group making it one of the most competitive age brackets on the course.
