Two Cities Half Marathon M50-54: O'Rourke edges Addington by three seconds

Patrick O'Rourke, 54, from Clovis, took the M50-54 title in 1:42:01 — and he had to earn every second of it. Greg Addington of Fresno was right on his heels, crossing in 1:42:04. Both men averaged 7:47 per mile on the day, but O'Rourke's stronger first-half positioning — moving from 70th to 68th among men through 10K while Addington slipped from 84th to 88th — proved to be the difference. Addington did rally in the back half, recovering to 82nd, but the three-second deficit at the line was already baked in.

The most eye-catching move of the morning belonged to Yonghoon Lee, 50, of Fresno. Running 8:01/mi, Lee stormed through the second half of the race, surging from 159th among men at the 1-mile mark all the way to 106th by the finish — a gain of 53 places in the back half alone. That 10K-to-finish charge earned him the 93rd-fastest split on that segment among men and locked up 3rd place in 1:45:02, a full three minutes clear of 4th.

Lubo Liu (4th, 1:48:22) and Calvin Chan (5th, 1:49:30) rounded out the top five, with Chan also making a strong late move — climbing from 169th among men at 10K to 142nd at the finish. Eric Pederson (6th, 1:51:46), Javier Lopez (7th, 1:53:13), and Van Boghossian (8th, 1:54:30) followed, with Fares Thwabah just four seconds behind in 9th at 1:54:34. The field spread out considerably from there, with 19 named finishers and 30 more completing the 50-runner group on a warm, clear Central Valley morning.
