At 54 — the oldest man on the M50-54 podium — he crossed in 1:42:01, averaging 7:47 per mile through Fresno's streets to claim the group win. What made it dramatic was how close it got: Greg Addington, three years his junior, was right there at the line, finishing in 1:42:04. Three seconds across 13.1 miles. O'Rourke had built his cushion early, moving from 204th to 90th among men through the first 10K, and he made it stand up.

Addington's race told a story of a runner who kept finding more. He entered the 10K checkpoint at 119th among men and surged to 82nd by the finish, logging the 78th-fastest 10K-to-finish split in the men's field. That closing kick was real — it just came up three seconds short. Yonghoon Lee, 50, ran a composed 1:45:02 to lock up third, moving steadily through the field and finishing comfortably clear of fourth-place Lubo Liu (1:48:22). The gap from third to fourth — nearly three and a half minutes — was the widest separation on the podium.

Behind the top three, the M50-54 group stayed competitive deep into the results. Javier Lopez (7th, 1:53:13) and Van Boghossian (8th, 1:54:30) separated themselves from a cluster that included Fares Thwabah just four seconds behind in 9th (1:54:34). At 12th and 13th, Mark Lawrence and Michael Montez both stopped the clock at 1:56:43 — separated by placement, not by the displayed time. Fifty men finished the race in this age group, and on a warm, clear morning, that podium battle between O'Rourke and Addington gave the whole field something to talk about.
