Masters Men 8K: Angell flies to the title in Virginia Beach

David Angell of Blue Ridge, VA owned the Masters Men field from wire to wire, crossing in 26:27 at a 5:19/mi clip that left little doubt about who was in charge. The 49-year-old also posted the 6th-fastest split on the 2M–4M segment among the men — sustaining his pace deep into the race rather than banking time early and hanging on.

Ryan Foster gave chase and earned every second of his 26:58 runner-up finish. The Cape Charles native already knew this course well: he ran 27:19 here in 2025 for 8th among the men, and this time he came back sharper, knocking 21 seconds off that mark to claim 2nd. Ryan Kent of Easley, SC rounded out the podium in 28:18 (5:42/mi), posting the 10th-fastest men's split on the second half of the course to hold off any late challengers.

The gap widened considerably after the top three. Todd Musher (4th, 29:38) and Ben Adams-Hopkins (5th, 30:00) kept the pressure honest but couldn't bridge back to Kent. Then came a fascinating cluster: David Dierstein (9th, 31:22) and Zachary Herrmann (8th, 31:23) finished just one second apart, with Jason Wahr (11th, 31:43), Jay Mccabe (10th, 31:45), David Warren (12th, 31:59), and Matt Sparacino (7th, 32:00) all arriving within the next 17 seconds. Six men, 38 seconds — in a 1,409-finisher Masters field, that's a race within the race.
