The 43-year-old from Dover, DE held 2nd among women from the opening miles through the finish, never wavering from that position while clocking a 5:43/mi average — and she saved her best for last, posting the fastest women's split of anyone in the field from 4M to the line. In a field of 552 F40-44 finishers, that kind of finishing kick is a statement.

Rebecca Hayes of Richmond made it a strong 1-2 for the group, crossing in 32:59 at a 6:38/mi clip. Her 12th-fastest women's second-half split shows she was building momentum as the race went on, ultimately finishing more than four and a half minutes behind Macklin but comfortably clear of the rest of the F40-44 field.
