Shamrock 8K F45-49: Bender dominates with a commanding wire-to-wire win

• Lauren Briles made the biggest move in the field, climbing from 112th to 79th among women by the finish — the standout surge of the race.

Stephanie Bender of Hamburg, PA left no doubt from the opening miles. Running at 6:52/mi, she crossed in 34:08 — a time that put her 18th among all women in the race and more than three and a half minutes clear of anyone in F45-49. She held that 18th-place women's standing through every checkpoint, never wavering, and backed it up with the 15th-fastest women's split on the 2M-to-4M stretch. This was a wire-to-wire statement in a 496-finisher field.

Behind her, the battle for 2nd and 3rd was brief but real. Rebecca Donohue of Baltimore finished 2nd in 37:44 (7:35/mi), with Jacquelyn Crook of Chesapeake just 10 seconds back in 3rd at 37:54 (7:37/mi). Crook actually ran the stronger middle segment — her 40th-fastest women's split on 2M→4M edged Donohue's 51st — but it wasn't quite enough to close the gap. Tasha Koenig of Shippensburg rounded out the top four in 38:16 (7:42/mi), finishing 22 seconds behind Crook.

The most compelling story outside the podium belonged to Lauren Briles of Greenville, SC. She was buried in 112th among women at the 2-mile mark, climbed to 83rd by 4 miles, and finished 79th — a relentless, sustained push that earned her 5th in F45-49 with a 41:18 (8:18/mi). That kind of positive progression through a deep women's field is hard to manufacture, and Briles made it look deliberate. Wendy Seymour (9th, 40:49) and Andrea Mchugh (10th, 41:01) rounded out a tight cluster just off Briles's shoulder, separated by only 12 seconds across two spots.
