Melknat Wudu, 21, from Boston, turned in one of the most electric performances of the entire morning. She crossed 5K buried in 84th among women, then unleashed the 2nd-fastest women's split of anyone in the field on the 5K-to-10K stretch, vaulting all the way to 3rd among women. By the finish she had climbed to 2nd among all women, stopping the clock at 47:44 — a 5:07-per-mile average that puts her within 11 seconds of Jesca Chelangat's 2023 women's course record of 47:33. That is not a near-miss for the podium; that is a flat-out assault on the record books.

Behind her, the battle for 2nd and 3rd in F20-24 was a story of two very different race strategies. Savanah Beavers, 23, from Danvers, IL, was the division's great mover — she sat 326th among women at 5K, then fired the 20th-fastest women's middle split to rocket into 21st among women and finish in 58:05 (6:14/mi). Ava Mahoney, 24, from Marblehead, MA, ran a steadier early race before unleashing the 27th-fastest women's closing split to lock up 3rd in 59:14 (6:21/mi). Beavers held the gap, but Mahoney's final-segment charge made it clear she was reeling her in.

The chase for the remaining top-five spots featured more late-race firepower. Morgan Engel, 21, from Syosset, NY, climbed from 538th among women at 5K to 37th by the finish, crossing in 1:01:04 (6:33/mi) for 4th. Right behind her, Abigail Touhey, 22, from Florence, MA, posted the 33rd-fastest women's split on the back half to finish 5th in 1:01:20 (6:35/mi) — a 16-second gap that Touhey was actively closing but couldn't quite bridge.
