Her closing split was the second-fastest among the women, meaning she wasn't just surviving the back half; she was pushing it.

The real drama played out in the battle for 3rd. Krista Drechsler held that position early but couldn't hold off a charging pack late. Gracielita Bastidas, the 25-year-old local from Fresno, made the boldest move of the day — climbing from 6th to 3rd with the third-fastest closing split in the field. Dani Springfels (Seaside, CA) also got past Drechsler, finishing 4th in 3:01:50, just 28 seconds behind Bastidas.
