The real drama for the podium's final step played out in the last few miles between Laura Cortez and Katie Scalzo. Cortez, 41, from Gardena, and Scalzo, 43, from Clovis, ran nearly in lockstep — 8:21 vs. 8:22/mi — with Cortez holding 3rd at 3:39:03 and Scalzo 4th at 3:39:14.
