F19 & Under Half Marathon: Grace Tompkins Pettigrew storms home for the win

• Grace Tompkins Pettigrew, 1:37:57 — winner of the F19 & Under race at a 7:28/mi clip, posting the 2nd-fastest women's split on the final 12M→Finish stretch to seal it.
• Kacey Kensic, 1:40:06 — runner-up, 2:09 back, and owner of the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 9.6M→10.5M segment — a burst that helped her lock up second place.
• Third and fourth decided by two seconds: Arden Taylor (1:41:40) and Hannah Kim (1:41:42) finished just two seconds apart after 13.1 miles through San Francisco's fog-laced streets.
• Alyssa Yang, age 14, finished 12th in 1:55:35 — the youngest athlete in the listed field and one of the most impressive results by age in the group.

Grace Tompkins Pettigrew didn't win this race from the front — she hunted it. The 16-year-old from San Francisco entered the women's field at 55th place through the early miles, then climbed steadily: 32nd, 17th, 13th, 10th. She was still 12th among women at the 12-mile mark, but then unleashed the 2nd-fastest women's closing split in the entire race to cross in 1:37:57 and take the F19 & Under title outright. Racing on home turf in 59°F and a stiff 14 mph wind, she made the finish stretch her own.

Kacey Kensic of Sebastopol made her own move mid-race, running the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 9.6M→10.5M segment to surge through the field and secure second in 1:40:06. Like Tompkins Pettigrew, she started well back — 65th among women — and climbed all the way to 11th by the finish. The two 16-year-olds delivered the most dynamic performances of the day.

Behind them, the battle for the podium's final step was a genuine fight. Arden Taylor, 18, from Lexington, MA, ran a controlled race — sitting 16th among women at the midpoint — and closed with the 13th-fastest women's split on the 12M→Finish to finish third in 1:41:40. Hannah Kim, 17, from Ladera Ranch, ran a similarly steady race and crossed in 1:41:42, just two seconds later, to take fourth. Kim's strongest segment came earlier — the 13th-fastest women's split on the 4M→6M stretch — but Taylor's late surge made the difference at the line.

Eliana Silverman, 15, from Santa Rosa rounded out the top five in 1:44:01, putting up the 11th-fastest women's split on the 10M→10.5M segment along the way. Lia Payne (6th, 1:46:43), Skylar Jones (7th, 1:47:25), and Zoe Cordani (8th, 1:48:25) completed a strong top eight, all finishing under 1:49. Across all 83 finishers in the F19 & Under field, this was a race defined by young athletes running with genuine aggression — and none more so than the two 16-year-olds at the top.
