Rocket City 10K: Harris dominates M45-49 in the Huntsville cold

• Martin Harris (46, Pike Road) won the M45-49 group in 40:42 — a 6:33/mi clip that put more than three minutes of daylight between him and the rest of the field.
• Second and third were separated by just 13 seconds: Josh Fowler (43:50) edged Daniel Brunick (44:03), both also 46.
• Places 13 and 14 finished in the same clock time of 57:48, with Jason Deem officially edging Michael Holder by the narrowest of margins.
• 30 men finished in the M45-49 group on a brutally cold morning — 29°F with a 16 mph wind cutting through Huntsville.

With temperatures barely above freezing and a stiff wind making every mile feel longer, the M45-49 field at the Rocket City 10K still produced a standout performance at the front. Martin Harris ran the kind of race that makes the result look easy — 6:33 per mile for 6.2 miles in those conditions is genuinely quick, and his winning margin of 3:08 over second place was decisive from the jump. Harris wasn't racing the field so much as racing the clock.

Behind him, Josh Fowler and Daniel Brunick — both 46, like Harris — fought out a tight battle for the podium. Fowler crossed in 43:50, Brunick 13 seconds later at 44:03. That gap is close enough to feel like a real contest but wide enough that Brunick never quite had the answer. Scott Sandlin (48:16) had the fourth spot to himself, with the rest of the field bunching up considerably as the race wore on.

The middle of the pack had its own drama. Charlie Cook through Randy Adams — places 5 through 18 — were spread across a 8:11 to 9:30 per-mile range, with several men separated by only seconds. The most notable: Jason Deem and Michael Holder both stopped the clock at 57:48 for 14th and 15th, the timing chip settling what the display could not. Thirteen seconds also separated 9th-place Rene Armando Gomez Luque from 10th-place Johnny Wilborn, with Adam Bernick just three seconds further back in 11th — a genuine cluster in the 55-to-57-minute stretch.
