With temperatures locked at 29°F and a 16 mph wind cutting through Huntsville, the F40-44 race belonged to Linda Royce from the start. The Meridianville runner clocked 45:39 at a 7:21/mi pace — a margin that left no doubt. Her 1:33 cushion over 2nd place Kristen Toppin of Waterloo, Iowa wasn't a photo finish; it was a statement. Toppin ran a composed 47:12 to secure the runner-up spot, and the gap from her back to 3rd was even larger at 2:19.

Andrea Silos of Guntown, Mississippi completed the podium in 49:31, the only other woman in the group to break the 50-minute barrier. Behind her, the race stretched out considerably — Jennifer Dupree came in 4th at 54:41 and Cynthia Phillips 5th at 56:05, a pair of finishes that bookended a five-minute gap in the middle of the field.

The most compelling battle of the day unfolded just outside the top five. Brittany Buatte (59:43), Kate Brosseau (59:51), and Amy Syx (1:00:16) ran practically shoulder to shoulder through the finish, with just 33 seconds separating 6th, 7th, and 8th place. Rachel Wyatt added to the congestion in 9th at 1:00:51, meaning four runners finished within 68 seconds of each other in a cold, competitive cluster that made the back half of the top ten anything but a formality.
