M0-14: Issac Gordon Runs Away from the Field in Frigid Huntsville

• Issac Gordon, 12, won the M0-14 group in 54:01 — a full 6 minutes and 2 seconds clear of the next finisher.
• Ian Stone and Cooper Baker, both 11 and 12, finished 2nd and 3rd separated by just 10 seconds (1:00:03 vs. 1:00:10), the tightest battle of the day in this group.

With temperatures barely above freezing and a stiff wind cutting across the course, the M0-14 group — five kids aged 11 to 13 — showed up and got it done. Issac Gordon, a 12-year-old from Athens, AL, made it look almost comfortable. He crossed in 54:01 at an 8:42/mi pace, a margin so commanding that second place hadn't finished when he'd already been done for six minutes.

Behind Gordon, the real drama unfolded between Ian Stone (Clarksville, TN) and Cooper Baker (Grant, AL). Stone, 12, edged Baker, 11, by just 10 seconds — 1:00:03 to 1:00:13 — after 6.2 miles of racing. That's a gap of roughly 100 meters at their pace, and Baker, the youngest finisher on the podium, gave Stone everything he had. Stone takes 2nd, Baker 3rd.

Arnav Singh, 11, from Madison, AL, came home 4th in 1:15:32, and fellow Madison resident Caden Howard, 13, rounded out the group in 1:23:56. Howard, the oldest of the five, finished in a shade over 13:30/mi — a respectable effort for a 13-year-old grinding through a cold December morning. All five finishers deserve credit for toeing the line in those conditions. Gordon, though, was in a different race entirely.
