• David Stickler finished 2nd at 56:37, just over a minute back, with the 11th-fastest Skyline→Finish split among the men — a strong close of his own.
• Emilio Quezada and John Mazzeo battled hard for 3rd and 4th, separated by only 29 seconds (58:23 vs. 58:52), both moving up through the men's field on the final segment.

The 47-year-old from Marina posted an 8:56/mi average and didn't just hold position — he charged, moving from 18th to 9th among the men over the Skyline→Finish leg. That closing surge was the 9th-fastest on that segment in the men's field, and it's what separated him clearly from the pack behind him.

David Stickler gave chase and did everything right, posting the 11th-fastest closing split among the men and finishing in 56:37 — a solid effort that earns him 2nd place but leaves him a minute and six seconds short of Zefferman. Behind him, the real drama of the day unfolded between Emilio Quezada of Salinas and John Mazzeo of Gilroy. Both men are 49, both were climbing through the men's field on the final leg, and in the end only 29 seconds separated them at the line.

The back half of the M40-49 field tells a different story. Aaron Cruz finished 6th in 1:09:36, already more than eight minutes off Wilcox's 5th-place 1:01:31. From there, the gaps grew considerably — Jason Williams (1:17:53), Chris Delle (1:44:00), and Jonathan Unangst (1:52:07) rounding out the nine finishers. Fort Ord's trails in cool, breezy 57°F conditions were manageable at the front, but the course had plenty to say to those further back.
