Two Cities Marathon M55-59: Nguyen Runs Away with It

• Hoang-Nam Nguyen (58, San Jose) won the M55-59 group in 3:37:42 — an 8:18/mi clip that left the field behind by nearly four minutes.
• Alexander Pritsky (56, Fresno) finished 2nd in 3:41:43, holding a strong 8:27/mi pace on his home course.
• Xuejun (James) Deng (56, Fremont) claimed 3rd in 3:54:48, more than 13 minutes back of the winner but a full 15+ minutes clear of 4th.
• Twelve men finished, spanning from Nguyen's 3:37:42 to James Allison's 6:15:54 — a range that tells the story of a wide-open field on a flat, fast course.

Hoang-Nam Nguyen, 58, put together the most complete race in the M55-59 group. He didn't sit still — his position among the men's field climbed steadily from 145th at the early checkpoints all the way to 104th by the finish, meaning he was passing runners throughout the second half of this point-to-point course. His 8:18/mi average held firm when it mattered most: on the 23M–25.2M stretch, he posted the 76th-fastest split in the men's field, still moving well late.

Pritsky, a local Fresno runner, made his most dramatic move early. He surged from 241st among men after the first mile to 130th by the 10K mark — the 109th-fastest men's split on that opening stretch — and then largely held position through the back half, finishing 2nd in 3:41:43. Deng ran a steady, methodical race, climbing from 215th to 158th among men across all checkpoints, and his 3rd-place 3:54:48 was comfortable enough that the podium was never really in doubt after the midpoint.

Behind the top three, Alexander Sanchez (4th, 4:10:05) and George Mironyuk (5th, 4:14:50) were separated by under five minutes, with Xavier Young (6th, 4:19:03) not far behind. The back half of the field spread out considerably — Xiaohui Wang (7th, 4:48:12) through James Allison (12th, 6:15:54) covered a range of nearly 90 minutes, a reminder that Two Cities' flat, Boston-qualifying course rewards those who arrive ready to race it.
