San Francisco 10K: Modi Dominates the F25-29 Field

• Riya Modi wins in 43:36 (7:01/mi), finishing 1:12 clear of 2nd place — the largest gap anywhere in the top five.
• Tight battle for 3rd: Daniela Aguilar (46:10) held off Tarja Nelsen (46:16) by just six seconds.
• Dense mid-pack: 11th through 13th place — Lizzy Burl (51:19), Amanda Schmitz (51:24), and Elena Tom (51:27) — separated by only eight seconds across three finishers.
• 353 women toed the line in the F25-29 field, making it one of the deepest cohorts of the morning.

Riya Modi, 28, from Seattle, ran away with the F25-29 title in commanding fashion. Her 7:01/mi average was a clear step above the rest of the field — Pui Yee Wong, who took 2nd in 44:48 at 7:13/mi, was the closest challenger but never truly threatened the lead. That 1:12 margin between first and second tells the real story: Modi was in a different race.

Behind Wong, the battle for the podium was genuinely tense. Daniela Aguilar, 25, from Oxnard, crossed in 46:10 to claim 3rd, with Tarja Nelsen, also 25, from Blaine, Minnesota, just six seconds back at 46:16. Sanjana Sathyanarayana rounded out the top five in 46:47 — a local San Francisco runner who kept it close through much of the race before the gap opened slightly in the final stretch.

The middle of the field offered its own drama. A significant jump separated the top five from the next cluster — Rachel Heaps (6th, 49:13) and Camille Januel (7th, 49:32) opened a new tier, with Na Young Kim (8th, 49:44) just behind. Then came the most compressed stretch of the entire race: Burl, Schmitz, and Tom — 11th, 12th, and 13th — finishing within eight seconds of each other between 51:19 and 51:27, each running a 8:16–8:17/mi pace through San Francisco's cool, overcast morning.

The conditions — 55°F, near-still air, and heavy cloud cover — were about as favorable as the city offers in late July, and the 353-runner F25-29 field made full use of them.
