Starting the race 41st among men, he steadily reeled in the field through every checkpoint: 31st, 28th, 26th, and finally 20th by the finish. That closing mile-16-to-finish split was the 8th-fastest of any man in the race on that stretch, a decisive surge on a warm 74°F morning that underlined exactly where Morgan found his extra gear.

Mackey Kikuchi of Reno told a different story. He flew through the early miles, sitting as high as 16th among men at the Mile 4–Mile 10 segment, but the back half of the course took its toll. By the finish he had slipped to 25th among men — a fade that ultimately handed Morgan the clearest of victories. Still, Kikuchi's 2:20:16 at 7:01/mi was a strong effort and good enough for a solid 2nd in the M55-59 group, 1:09 behind the winner.

Alexander Zlotnikov (Livermore, CA) was remarkably consistent — holding 41st among men from Mile 10 all the way to the finish — and claimed 3rd in 2:28:16. Behind him, Stephen Erickson and Simon Waldron both showed positive momentum late in the race, with Waldron moving from 118th to 99th among men across the full course to round out the top five. The remaining 19 finishers spanned a wide range, with the 20th-place finisher, Mark Gallagher of Auburn, crossing in 3:57:13 — nearly 1:38 behind Morgan's winning time.
