Joanie Murakami of Sacramento controlled this race from the front and kept pulling away. She moved steadily through the women's field all afternoon — from 154th among women early to 119th by the finish — holding a 10:26/mi average across 20 miles in 74°F heat. That's a composed, relentless effort, and the 5:05 margin over Huppert tells the story plainly.

Lynda Huppert, racing on home turf in Folsom, was the closest challenger and the most consistent mover in the group. She tracked from 146th among women to 132nd, and her Mile 15.6→Mile 16 segment was the 92nd-fastest women's split at that point in the course — a strong push late. But Murakami had already built too much cushion by then, and Huppert settled for a well-earned second in 3:33:42.

The race's most eye-catching late-race number belonged to Sharon Barrick of Lincoln. Her Mile 15.6→Mile 16 split ranked 3rd among all women on that segment — a remarkable burst from someone sitting 4th in the age group — but it wasn't enough to close the gap on Hennessy ahead of her, and she finished in 4:06:06. Hennessy, meanwhile, had run a steady middle portion of the race, climbing from 209th among women to 181st before holding position through the finish in 3:53:38. Avril Harcourt and Julie Hershberger rounded out the six, with Hershberger crossing in 4:17:43 to complete the F65-69 field.
