M30-34 at Peachtree: Lipschitz takes the title in a scorching front-pack battle

• Lipschitz surged late, climbing from 22nd among men to 10th on the final miles — his 5th-fastest split in the men's field on the 4M→5M stretch was the decisive move.
• 3,138 finishers lined up in M30-34, making it one of the deepest fields on the course; the gap from 1st to 4th was just 66 seconds, while 5th place trailed by over a minute and a half.

In 75°F heat with humidity pushing 68%, the Peachtree Road Race's M30-34 group produced a genuinely gripping front-end contest. Lipschitz ran a measured early race — sitting 22nd among men through the first few miles — before unleashing a powerful finishing stretch that carried him all the way to 10th among men and the M30-34 crown in 28:27.

Chumba had a different journey to the podium. He rocketed out to 2nd among men at the first checkpoint, faded back into the mid-teens, then steadily clawed his way back to 11th among men by the finish. That consistency was enough for 2nd in M30-34 at 28:38, but not quite enough to match Lipschitz's late charge. Weldlibanos, meanwhile, was the early mover — climbing from 19th among men all the way to 9th by the 3M mark on the strength of that elite 2M→3M split, before settling back to 13th among men and 3rd in M30-34 at 28:47.

Marcelo Lagüera held a remarkably steady 17th among men for most of the race and crossed 4th in M30-34 at 29:33, a full 46 seconds behind Weldlibanos. Victor Daniel Gomez Mejia of León De Los Aldama rounded out the top five in 31:08, while Ben Anderson (Fort Collins) and Kirubel Erassa (Colorado Springs) filled 6th and 7th, separated by just four seconds. Behind them, a cluster of Atlanta locals — Jon Moses, Kyle Boykin, Bret Freed — kept the local pride alive deep into the standings.
