The 42-year-old from Flagstaff ran 5:36 per mile from Prospect Park to Central Park and was never seriously threatened, crossing in 1:13:23 — a margin of 8:18 over runner-up Maddie Durkin. She held 18th among all women from the 15K checkpoint through the tape, and still found another gear on the closing stretch, logging the 16th-fastest split in the women's field from 20K to the finish.

Durkin (1:21:41, 6:14/mi) and Darlina Goldak (1:22:39, 6:18/mi) rounded out the podium, but the more compelling story was Goldak's trajectory. The Woodside native was 116th among women at 5K and systematically picked off competitors all the way to 57th by the end. Her second-half split ranked 46th in the entire women's field — a surge that also leapfrogged Marah Borgman, who had been running alongside her in the 60s and 70s but faded just enough to finish 5th in 1:22:54.

Anne Marie Haehner and Juliet Hershey Beatty rounded out positions 4 and 6, but between them sits a cautionary tale: Haehner was as high as 62nd among women at the halfway mark and drifted to 93rd by the finish, a fade that cost her in the Masters standings as well. Meanwhile, Fiona Bayly quietly put together one of the day's more remarkable results — the 58-year-old New Yorker finished 8th among Masters Women in 1:24:38, the oldest athlete in the top ten and one who clearly had no interest in running conservatively.
