M30-34: Talbi Runs Away from a Deep Field in 59:41

• Zouhair Talbi won the M30-34 group in 59:41 (4:33/mi), posting the fastest men's split on the 5K→10K segment and climbing from 3rd to 1st among men through that stretch.
• Jack Rowe held 2nd in 1:00:17 — a 36-second gap to Talbi, but a comfortable 33 seconds clear of 3rd-place Daniel Ebenyo (1:00:50).
• Places 4 and 5 — Tsegay Tuemay Weldlibanos and Joel Reichow — both clocked 1:02:14, with Weldlibanos edging ahead by the finest of margins at the line.

Forty degrees, clear skies, and a barely-there breeze set up ideal conditions for fast running, and Zouhair Talbi of Colorado Springs made full use of them. He came through the first 5K sitting 3rd among men, then unleashed the fastest men's split of the entire field on the 5K-to-10K stretch to seize the lead. He wouldn't hold top spot wire-to-wire — he'd slipped to 4th among men by 15K — but he surged back to 2nd and ultimately claimed the M30-34 title with a 4:33-per-mile average that stood well clear of everyone around him.

Jack Rowe of London ran a measured, consistent race, sitting 10th among men through 5K and never cracking the top ten again, yet his steady 4:36/mi pace was more than enough to lock up 2nd in the age group. Daniel Ebenyo, representing Eldoret, was in the mix early — moving up to 9th among men through 5K→10K with the 9th-fastest split on that segment — before settling back to 13th among men and 3rd in M30-34 at 1:00:50.

The race's most dramatic subplot came at positions 4 and 5. Tsegay Tuemay Weldlibanos of Flagstaff and Joel Reichow of Saint Paul ran virtually in lockstep the entire way — both registering the 11th- and 12th-fastest men's splits on the 20K-to-finish segment — and both crossing in 1:02:14. The timing system separated them by the slimmest of margins, with Weldlibanos taking 4th. Behind them, Turner Wiley (1:02:43) and Jacob Thomson (1:03:48) rounded out a top seven that never gave an inch without a fight.
