Cesar Lira, 43, of Daly City, claimed second in 1:25:08 at 6:30/mi, but his race told a different story in real time. He slipped steadily through the men's standings — from 63rd at the first checkpoint down to 72nd by the end — meaning Lander's winning margin was built on a genuine gap in pace, not a late fade by Lira. Marcus Aguilar, 41, from San Francisco itself, rounded out the podium in 1:26:54 (6:38/mi), running a similarly measured race that drifted back through the men's field as fresher legs pushed past him.

The race for the top ten had its own drama.
