San Francisco Half Marathon 2025: Rosemarie MacGuinness Runs Away with the F65-69 Title

• MacGuinness wins in 1:59:32 — a 9:07/mi effort that put more than 25 minutes between her and the rest of the F65-69 field.
• Tightest battle in the group: Atsuko Miller (2:30:10) and Joanna Deredita (2:32:56) were separated by just 2:46, with Teri Grupp (2:36:48) a further 3:52 back — three finishers within six minutes for 3rd through 5th.
• Kathy Pryor and Varetta Mayes rounded out the top half of the 11-woman field, finishing 6th and 7th in 2:45:30 and 2:46:48 respectively.
• Full spread: Martha Guarino closed out the field in 3:57:33 at 18:07/mi, nearly two hours behind the winner.

Rosemarie MacGuinness of San Francisco simply ran a different race. Her 9:07/mi average was in a class of its own among the F65-69 finishers, and her 1:59:32 finish — the only sub-two-hour effort in the group — was never seriously threatened. She entered the women's field at 192nd place through the early miles, and while the hills of San Francisco gradually pushed her back through the women's standings, she was always the clear leader in her own race. Her 268th-fastest women's split on the 1.2M–4.9M stretch shows she was moving with genuine purpose in the opening segment.

Behind her, Linda Siino of Alamo claimed 2nd in 2:24:50, and she actually got stronger as the race wore on — her 923rd-fastest women's split on the closing 11.9M-to-finish stretch was her best segment of the day, a sign she was still running with energy when others were fading. Atsuko Miller, also from San Francisco, had the opposite arc: she came through the early miles in 762nd place among women but slipped to 1,108th by the third checkpoint, ultimately finishing 3rd in 2:30:10. Joanna Deredita of Half Moon Bay ran a steadier race to claim 4th in 2:32:56, with Teri Grupp of Tarpon Springs — the only out-of-state finisher in the top five — taking 5th in 2:36:48 after gradually moving up through the women's field across all four checkpoints.

Clara Oden (8th, 3:09:10) and Carolyn Meredith Simpson (9th, 3:10:37) were the closest pairing outside the top five, separated by just 1:27. Pam Wallace finished 10th in 3:30:03, and Martha Guarino of New York brought home the final spot in 3:57:33 — a finish that required covering the hilly San Francisco course at 18:07/mi, no small feat in its own right.
