In cold, drizzly conditions — 41°F and a steady rain over Napa — the F21-24 race came down to a razor-thin three-way contest at the front. Helen Horan crossed in 3:10:46 at 7:17/mi to claim the win, but she had to earn every second of it. Shufan Xia (Stanford, CA) was the story of the second half, climbing from 24th among women at the opening split to 19th by the halfway mark and ultimately 17th at the finish — passing Horan in the women's standings along the way before the F21-24 tally settled. Her 11th-fastest second-half women's split in the entire field was a genuine surge, and it nearly rewrote the result: she finished just 38 seconds back in 3:11:24.

Natalie Schroeder (Escondido, CA) rounded out the podium in 3:11:55, herself no slouch through the middle miles — her 13th-fastest women's split from 13.1 to 20 miles kept her in contention to the end. The trio's combined spread of 69 seconds across three runners made for one of the tightest podiums in the field on the day.

Further back, the most dramatic trajectory belonged to Marielle Avola (Boston, MA), who sat 48th among women at both the opening and the halfway checkpoint before unleashing the 30th-fastest second-half women's split in the field to surge to 34th at the finish and claim 4th in F21-24 at 3:23:01. Meanwhile, Mei Chin (Loma Linda, CA) told the opposite story — sitting 20th among women early before fading to 41st by the finish, crossing in 3:26:16. Rachel Lorson (3:26:51), Lucy Moriarty (3:27:18), and Amy Larsen (3:27:33) followed in a tight cluster through 6th–8th, separated by just 42 seconds across three runners.
