M20-24 Long Beach Half Marathon: Goldstein Dominates at 5:04 Pace

• Nicholas Goldstein (22, Newbury Park, CA) won the M20-24 race in 1:06:25 — a 5:04/mi average that placed him among the fastest men on the entire course.
• Tyler Stogsdill (1:11:33) and Dylan Brown (1:11:53) separated by just 20 seconds at 2nd and 3rd, but it was Brown's blazing middle segment that made it close.
• Cameron Leclair rounded out the top five in 1:18:27, a full 5:57 behind 4th-place David Delatorre — the biggest gap between any two consecutive podium finishers.
• 421 men aged 20–24 finished on a cool, clear Long Beach morning, making this one of the larger fields in the race.

Nicholas Goldstein ran a race in a different class entirely. His 1:06:25 — 5:04 per mile across 13.1 miles — left the rest of the M20-24 field more than five minutes behind. He moved through the men's field from 5th to 6th at the halfway point and held that position to the line, posting the 9th-fastest split on the second half among all men. At 22, he ran with the authority of someone who simply came to Long Beach to win.

The real drama unfolded behind him, where Tyler Stogsdill and Dylan Brown waged a back-half battle for the podium. Stogsdill (1:11:33, 5:27/mi) was the steadier runner through the first half, holding 14th among men. Brown, meanwhile, was back in 39th among men at the first checkpoint — but he posted the 9th-fastest men's split on the 5.5M-to-10.8M segment, vaulting all the way to 15th and locking in 3rd in M20-24 at 1:11:53. He made up enormous ground in the middle miles, but Stogsdill had enough of a cushion to hold 2nd by 20 seconds. David Delatorre (1:12:30, 5:32/mi) ran a measured race to claim 4th, moving steadily from 22nd to 21st among men across the full distance.

From 6th place onward, the field spread out considerably. Bryan Urip (6th, 1:22:58), Roberto Reynoso (7th, 1:23:25), and Alan Solis (8th, 1:23:39) were tightly bunched within 41 seconds of each other, while Tae Hyeok Kang and Justin Peralta finished 9th and 10th at 1:25:55 and 1:25:56 respectively — separated by a single second. Dylan James Harpster closed out the listed finishers in 20th at 1:32:37, with 401 more M20-24 runners completing the course behind him.
