M1-29: Noah Reid Dominates a Fog-Shrouded Sacramento Marathon

Reid made his move early and never looked back. After sitting 2nd among the men through the opening segment, he surged to the front and held that position through every subsequent checkpoint, crossing in 2:47:02 at a 6:23/mi clip. His Out & Back→Lap 1 split was the fastest among the men, which is precisely where the race was decided — he built the gap when it mattered and managed it the rest of the way.

The battle for 2nd and 3rd told a different story. Fluetsch started boldly, leading the men's field through the first checkpoint, but gradually slipped — 2nd, then 4th by the finish. Inouye, meanwhile, was patient. Starting 6th among the men, he worked his way forward methodically, logging the second-fastest Lap 3→Lap 4 split among the men to lock up 2nd in M1-29 by 18 minutes over Fluetsch. The gap between them at the line — 5:38 — reflects how much ground Inouye gained in those final laps.

Jason Yoder ran a steady if unspectacular race, holding 11th among the men from start to nearly finish before a strong Lap 4→Finish split nudged him to 10th. He crossed in 3:34:08, more than 22 minutes behind Fluetsch. And then there's Isaiah Ochoa — 13 years old, finishing a full marathon in Sacramento fog at 14:36/mi. In a six-person M1-29 age group, he brought up the rear, but finishing a marathon at 13 is its own headline entirely.
