F60-69 Marathon: Pozzi Owns the Fog in Sacramento

The F60-69 age group at the Jed Smith Ultra Classic Marathon came down to two women willing to grind out 26.2 miles in 50-degree fog with near-total humidity — and Angie Pozzi, 66, of Granite Bay, made it look controlled. She ran a steady 10:20-per-mile pace and was active early, posting the 6th-fastest women's split across Laps 1 and 2 while her overall standing in the women's field fluctuated between 6th and 8th before stabilizing at 7th by the tape. That kind of consistency in miserable conditions is worth noting.

Holly Peterson-Herr, 65, of Carson City, was running a very different race. She held a steady 15th place among women through the first four checkpoints, but something clicked in the back half — she moved up to 13th among women and recorded the 12th-fastest women's split on Laps 3 and 4. She crossed in 7:34:30, nearly 17:21 per mile on average, but she finished — and in an ultra-adjacent marathon on a foggy January morning in Sacramento, that's the whole point.

Two finishers, two very different days on the course, and both got it done.
