Two Cities 5K: Grieser takes the F25-29 title in Fresno

Gabrielle Grieser, 28, of Fresno, ran a composed 9:07-per-mile pace to claim the F25-29 title at her home race. Her 28:20 was the class of the field, and she never needed to be chased — the margin over Katie Amendt was a clear 13 seconds, enough to win comfortably without being a blowout.

Amendt, 25, out of Clovis, pushed the pace at 28:33 (9:11/mi) and earned a strong runner-up finish. Jessica Castillo of Dinuba rounded out the podium in 29:53 — nearly a minute and a half back but well clear of the rest of the field. That gap to 4th-place Kayliana Houston (31:05) tells you the top three were operating in a different gear altogether.

The real drama unfolded a bit further down the leaderboard. Monica Galvan Valencia (Chowchilla) and Rayni Damasco (Clovis) ran essentially identical races — 31:57 and 32:00 respectively — with just three seconds deciding 5th and 6th across 3.1 miles. From there, the field spread out steadily through the 30s and into the mid-36-minute range, with 20 named finishers and 40 more completing the F25-29 field of 60.

On a warm November morning in Fresno — 74°F and sunny — the conditions were no gift to fast times, which makes Grieser's sub-9:10 average all the more worth noting.
