Three men lined up for the M75-79 race on a cool, overcast San Francisco morning — 57°F with barely a breath of wind — and Jeffery Richardson of Livermore made the most of it. The 76-year-old crossed in 1:01:32 at a 9:54/mi clip, a commanding performance that left no doubt at the front of the field.

Richardson wasn't just holding steady late in the race — he was gaining. Over the 4.62-mile-to-finish segment he moved up 25 spots among the men's field, a sign that his closing pace had real teeth. The gap to 2nd place, Muthkrishnan Krishnamurthy of Irvine, stretched to 18:42 by the tape.
