F45-49 10K: Tiffani Williams runs away from the field

Tiffani Williams, 49, from Los Angeles, made this one a solo time trial from the gun. Her 40:29 — a 6:31/mi clip across a cool, damp San Francisco morning — left the rest of F45-49 more than ten minutes behind. She held 5th among all women from the first checkpoint to the finish line, and her 4th-fastest women's closing split confirmed she wasn't coasting to the tape.

Behind her, the real racing happened in a tight cluster. Michelle Vannelli (2nd, 51:12) had daylight on the rest, but 3rd through 5th played out with genuine tension. Andrea Casson (45, San Francisco) was sitting 84th among women at the 4.62-mile mark before unleashing the 37th-fastest women's closing split to finish 3rd in 51:32. Joyce Young (4th, 51:45) also moved up — from 75th to 66th among women — but her 58th-fastest closing split wasn't quite enough to hold off Casson, who gained the edge by 13 seconds. Andrea Frisk rounded out the top five in 52:14, with Xiao Ying Tang (6th, 52:55) closing the lead pack.

Further back, the 57-degree overcast conditions kept times honest across a deep field. Maureen Kohi (7th, 55:10) and Gay Caluya (8th, 55:44) separated themselves from the next tier, with Ashley McCullough (9th, 57:20) and Ling Liu (10th, 57:39) rounding out the top ten. All told, 116 women finished in F45-49 — Williams simply ran a different race than all of them.
