Ashley Schannauer made the trip from Santa Fe count. Running a 9:36/mi pace through San Francisco's cool, humid morning, he crossed in 59:37 — the only man in the M70-74 field to finish under an hour. That sub-60 benchmark wasn't just a win; it was a statement, putting nearly three minutes of daylight between himself and the runner-up.

George Musante (1:02:31, 10:04/mi) and Gary Brickley (1:03:50, 10:16/mi) ran the closest battle of the day, trading positions and ultimately finishing 1:19 apart for 2nd and 3rd. Brickley, a San Francisco local racing on home streets at age 72, held his own through the final 4.62M-to-Finish stretch — though Musante's slightly faster closing split kept him safely in 2nd. Robert Reichman (4th, 1:10:44) and Phillip Warren (5th, 1:11:41) staged their own tight duel just behind, separated by only 57 seconds, with Reichman gaining a few places in the closing stretch while Warren faded slightly.

The back half of the field spread out considerably. Eric Kan finished 6th in 1:24:02, and Alfredo Piguing, Spencer Busby, Robert Hellman, Andrei Roschkowsky, and Anthony Kriletich rounded out places 7 through 11 — Roschkowsky (1:53:41) and Kriletich (1:54:18) finishing just 37 seconds apart at the very end of the group.
