Izzi Gengaro of Stanford, CA controlled this race from the opening miles and never relinquished the lead. Her 1:16:46 at 5:51/mi was the class of a 1,042-woman field, and she backed it up with the fastest women's split on the 7M-to-finish stretch — meaning she didn't just hold on, she pressed harder in the second half. Runner-up Alex Wang of Oakland crossed in 1:19:04 (6:02/mi), a solid 2:18 back, and also ran the 2nd-fastest closing split among women, holding her position firmly.

The race's most compelling subplot played out just behind Wang. Jillian Wesselman of Los Gatos sat 4th through 7 miles, then unleashed the 3rd-fastest closing split in the women's field to overtake Elaina Clancy of Tacoma and claim 3rd in 1:19:40 (6:05/mi). Clancy, who had held 3rd at the midway checkpoint, finished 4th in 1:20:15 — a 35-second gap that tells the story of Wesselman's surge. Both women ran sub-6:10 pace, but the final miles belonged to Wesselman.

Further back, Julia Schultz made the most dramatic move of the top 10, going from 7th at 7 miles to 5th at the tape in 1:21:28 (6:13/mi). Kayla Regulski (6th, 1:21:46), Samantha Barrett (7th, 1:21:57), and Kimberly Sanchez Dardine (8th, 1:22:01) were tightly bunched across a 15-second window. Carolyn Smith, just 21 years old from Mountain View, rounded out the top 10 in 1:22:22 — a strong showing in a deep and fast women's field on a cool, misty morning in Santa Rosa.
