Joyce Lee made this one look easy. The 44-year-old from Fremont crossed in 22:44 at a 7:19/mi clip — a pace no one else in the F40-49 field could match. Her nearest challenger, Kimberly Holder of Salinas, finished 40 seconds back in 23:24, and that gap tells the whole story: Lee was in a race of her own from the start.

The real drama played out just behind her. Holder (7:32/mi) and Kyndra Kennedy of San Rafael (7:34/mi) ran nearly stride for stride, with Kennedy closing the gap but unable to quite catch Holder — 6 seconds the final margin between 2nd and 3rd at 23:24 and 23:30. Melissa McIntyre (47, Yuba City) was the eldest finisher in the top ten, taking 10th in 26:45, one second behind Angelica Nunez in 9th. At the back of the listed field, Megan Basinger (19th, 29:30) and Maria Godinez (20th, 29:40) closed out the top 20 in 9:30 and 9:33/mi respectively — steady, solid runs in a 151-woman field that had something to offer at every level of the pack.
