Ryan Fitzsimons ran a patient first half and then turned the screws. Sitting 8th among men at the halfway point, he unleashed the 5th-fastest men's second-half split in the field to climb to 4th overall among men by the finish — and take the M30-39 title in 2:36:18 at 5:58/mi. The win wasn't handed to him; it was earned mile by mile through the wine country roads of Sonoma County.

Matthew Hillyard, 37, was even more aggressive in the back half. Starting the second leg 11th among men, he posted the 4th-fastest men's closing split in the entire field to finish 5th overall among men and 2nd in M30-39 in 2:37:42. That closing surge was the sharpest of anyone on the podium — Hillyard caught Fitzsimons in pace but couldn't quite close the 1:24 gap that had opened before the turn.

Behind them, the race for the final podium spot was a genuine three-way scramble. Ethan Wappes (32, San Francisco) held on for 3rd in 2:39:40, but Bruce Peck (32, Lindon, UT) and Alexandros Anemogiannis (30, Berkeley) were right on his heels — Peck finishing 9 seconds back in 2:39:49, Anemogiannis just 3 seconds further in 2:39:52. Notably, Anemogiannis was the only one of the three to fade in the second half, slipping from 7th among men to 8th, while Wappes and Peck each moved forward.

Further down, the race featured a cluster of strong performances between 2:54 and 2:56 — Gudemann (2:54:33), Delain (2:54:50), Gonzalez (2:54:52), Chen (2:55:40), Wyman (2:55:44), and Budzyn (2:55:50) all finishing within 77 seconds of each other across places 11 through 16, making for one of the most competitive mid-pack stretches of the day.
