Santa Rosa Marathon F30-39: Chandler Edges Out a Sub-3:03 Battle at the Front

• Madelyn Chandler (Saint Helena, CA) won the F30-39 field in 3:02:25 (6:57/mi), holding 4th among women from halfway to the finish.
• 31-second gap separated 1st and 2nd — Chandler (3:02:25) from Deanna Cusick (3:02:56) — with Brianna Villarreal another 3:53 back in 3rd at 3:06:49.
• Jennifer Chung made the most notable second-half move, climbing from 16th to 13th among women on the back half with the 11th-fastest women's split on that stretch — faster than both Villarreal (9th) and Drechsler (14th) on the same segment.
• All five podium finishers ran sub-7:15/mi — a testament to how competitive the top of this 130-runner field was on a flat, fast Sonoma County course.

Madelyn Chandler, racing on home turf out of Saint Helena, controlled the F30-39 race from wire to wire. She held 4th among women at the halfway mark and never yielded it, closing in 3:02:25 at a 6:57/mi clip — and posting the 5th-fastest women's split on the back half of the course. Deanna Cusick of Arvada, CO gave chase all the way, finishing 31 seconds back in 3:02:56 (6:59/mi) with the 7th-fastest women's second-half split. These two ran the entire race in lockstep by position, but Chandler's slightly sharper pace on both halves was the difference.

Brianna Villarreal (Plano, TX) rounded out the podium in 3:06:49 — a full 3:53 behind Cusick — running a 7:08/mi average and posting the 9th-fastest women's split on the back half. Behind her, Krista Drechsler of Santa Rosa finished 4th in 3:09:34, but it was Jennifer Chung (San Jose, CA) who provided the most interesting late-race subplot: sitting 16th among women at the halfway point, Chung ran the 11th-fastest women's split on the back half to climb to 13th overall among women and 5th in the F30-39 field, crossing in 3:10:08.

The next tier was tightly bunched, with Kimberly Tower (3:14:41) and Kimberly Bermudez (3:15:16) taking 6th and 7th, and four runners — Mallory Rayner (3:18:46), Heidi Daulton (3:18:57), Laura Lipe (3:19:35), and Aleksandra Reetz (3:20:00) — finishing within 74 seconds of each other across 9th through 12th. With 130 finishers in the F30-39 field and a cool, clear morning in wine country, this was a race built for fast times — and the front of the field delivered.
