Men's Half Marathon: Embleton Dominates in Eugene Fashion

• Jerik Embleton, 1:08:24 (5:13/mi) — won the men's race by 1:41 over Logan McNamar and posted the fastest men's split on the 7M→Finish stretch.
• McNamar's late charge: moved from 3rd to 2nd over the final half, running the second-fastest 7M→Finish split to edge Jacob Potere (1:11:13, 3rd) by 1:08.
• Jacob Potere faded late: held 2nd through 7 miles but ran only the 6th-fastest closing split, surrendering the runner-up spot to McNamar's stronger finish.
• Anthony Cortes, 4th (1:11:46): held his position wire-to-wire — and was also 2nd in the men's 5K at this same event, making him one of the weekend's busiest competitors.

Jerik Embleton, 24, out of Eugene, came to Santa Rosa and left no doubt. His 1:08:24 — a 5:13/mi clip across 13.1 miles in 52°F morning air — was 1:41 clear of the field, and he backed it up with the fastest closing split of any man from mile 7 to the finish. That combination of early control and late power is the mark of a complete race, and Embleton delivered both.

Behind him, the real drama played out in the chase pack. Jacob Potere (Novato, CA) held 2nd through the first seven miles, but Logan McNamar (Pittsburg, CA) was hunting him down. McNamar ran the second-fastest 7M→Finish split in the men's field — faster than Potere's 6th-fastest close — and the gap tells the story: McNamar crossed in 1:10:05, Potere in 1:11:13, a 1:08 swing over the back half. Potere still earned the podium, but McNamar earned the silver.

David Eik (5th, 1:12:12) posted the 4th-fastest closing split, suggesting he too was moving through the field late. Just behind him, Kiernan Elam, Jacob Milburn, and Joseph Skurski — all finishing between 1:12:40 and 1:12:51 at a shared 5:33/mi pace — made for one of the tightest three-man clusters of the morning. Anthony Cortes (4th, 1:11:46) held his position cleanly and capped a remarkable weekend, having also run to 2nd in the men's 5K at this same event. Tucker Presnell, just 16 years old out of Oakland, rounded out the top 20 with a 1:17:20 — a result worth watching in the years ahead.
