M70+ Half Marathon: Ramos rules the veterans in Santa Rosa

Rufino Ramos of Livermore delivered the headline performance of the M70+ race, crossing in 1:58:08 at a 9:01/mi clip to win by nearly nine minutes over runner-up John Clark. That sub-two-hour mark was the clear dividing line in this field — no one else came close to it. Clark (2:07:05, 9:42/mi) held second comfortably, with Davis's Mark Goltz rounding out the podium in 2:10:24 (9:57/mi). Frederick Taylor, 75, of Austin made the trip worthwhile with a 2:12:38 for fourth, running 10:07/mi.

The middle of the field was where the racing got tight. Ramos actually lost ground among the men on the 7M→Finish segment, sliding from 356th to 366th — meaning Clark, who moved from 511th to 476th on that same closing stretch, was running the stronger finish. Clark's late surge wasn't enough to threaten the overall gap, but it showed real competitive instinct over the back half. Jerritts and Ernst (5th and 6th, finishing 2:14:59 and 2:15:12) were separated by just 13 seconds, while Linzner and Ericsson at 7th and 8th shared the clock at 2:18:02 — inches apart after 13.1 miles.

The back of the field told its own story of grit in cool, humid Santa Rosa air. John Nagamine, 76, of Aiea, Hawaii, came in 9th at 2:23:45. Eric Ortner finished 10th in 2:31:07, followed by John Gates (11th, 2:59:50) and Jim Glick (12th, 3:09:21). Dennis Mori, 77, of San Leandro closed it out in 3:46:03 — the oldest finisher in the group, running every one of those 13.1 miles.
