Tucker Presnell, the 16-year-old from Oakland, turned this into a solo time trial. He moved from 24th to 20th among men over that stretch, demonstrating that he wasn't just coasting to the line. Second place went to fellow 16-year-old Michael Gordon of La Cañada in 1:27:36 (6:41/mi), a notably slower closing pace than Presnell's, and 10 minutes and 16 seconds behind the winner. Isaias Albor, 18, of Santa Rosa rounded out the podium in 1:34:57 (7:15/mi), but faded on the back half — dropping from 94th to 119th among men over the final stretch.

The real drama played out in the battle for 4th through 6th. Daniel So, 19, from Vancouver crossed in 1:44:18 after a strong close — he moved up 19 spots among men from the 7-mile mark to the finish. Right behind him, 14-year-old Raul Sanchez from Elk Grove finished 1:44:26, having gone the other direction: he dropped 23 spots among men over that same stretch. Dominic DeFazio, 15, of Windsor followed in 1:44:44, and Jose Javier Merino Hernández, 17, of Fairfield crossed just 10 seconds later in 1:44:54 — four runners within 36 seconds, all racing each other to the wire.

The back of the field told its own story of persistence across a cool, humid Santa Rosa morning. Sean Mulli, 14, of Brentwood finished 8th in 1:51:04, while the field spread out steadily from there. Diego Sanchez, 18, of Saint Helena closed it out in 19th place at 2:43:40 — 12:29/mi over 13.1 miles on a morning that asked something real of every finisher.
