Cindy Egger of Galt, CA made the F65-69 race her own from the gun. Running at a 9:40/mi clip, the 66-year-old was never seriously threatened, and her gender place tracking tells the story of a runner who faded relative to the broader women's field as the miles wore on — moving from 175th among women early to 320th by the finish — but within her own group, no one came close. Her margin of victory over Siew Chuah was 35 minutes and one second. That's not a race; that's a statement.

The real contest was for second and third. Chuah, 65, of Walnut Creek, started conservatively — sitting 1,078th among women at the first checkpoint — and spent the entire race climbing through the field, ultimately finishing 701st among women at 4:48:26. Her strongest stretch came between miles 18 and 24, where she posted the 501st-fastest women's split on that segment. Kirkwood, 69, ran a similar late-race pattern, also logging her best relative effort on that same 18-to-24-mile stretch (528th-fastest among women), but Chuah had enough of a cushion to hold second by nearly nine minutes.

Marilyn Van Dyke, 67, of Lakewood, finished 4th in 5:24:19, her best segment coming in the final push from mile 24 to the finish. Laurie Winslow, 69, of Palo Alto, crossed 5th in 5:47:50, while Regina Roberts (6th, 6:11:22) and Cyd Antang (7th, 6:27:48) rounded out the seven-finisher field. All seven women who toed the line on a mild San Francisco morning finished — no small thing over 26.2 miles.
